Effects of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals on Seals

چکیده
At the same time harbour porpoises, that had died of a similar virus, appeared stranded on the beaches. Two years later another mass die-off occurred in the Mediterranean striped dolphin populations. The severe and lethal outcomes of the epidemics led many in the scientific community to believe that a contaminantinduced immune deficiency was responsible for the high mortality during the epidemic outbreaks. A p a t t e r n emerged in which seal populations in grossly polluted waters, like the Kattegat, Skagerrak, German Bight and southern parts of the North Sea suffered the worst.

Health effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on wildlife, with special reference to the European situation.
Many wildlife species may be exposed to biologically active concentrations of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. There is strong evidence obtained from laboratory studies showing the potential of several environmental chemicals to cause endocrine disruption at environmentally realistic exposure levels. In wildlife populations, associations have been reported between reproductive and developmental ...

Breast cancer affects Iranian women at least one decade younger than their counterparts in othercountries and the incidence of breast fibroadenoma is growing in the last two decades in Tehran. Thisstudy aimed to compare the AhR levels in premenopausal breast cancer and breast fibroadnemo withappropriate normal groups. Possible associations of AhR with lifestyle and reproductive risk factorsand ...
متن کاملThe effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on survivorship and fecundity. A potential cause for extinction?
Wildlife and laboratory studies indicate the potential for endocrine-disrupting chemicals to disrupt the reproductive and developmental health of various species. These chemical agents, in turn, effect survivorship and fecundity on vulnerable amniotic species including alligators, fish, otters, and rats. Research has shown devastating effects on certain populations exposed to high concentration...
متن کاملP-29: Study of The Environmental Effectsof EDCs, Perfluorooctanoic Acid and Diethylstilbestrol on Human ReproductiveParameters and Fertility Outcomes
Background: There is an important evidence that prolonged exposure to several endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). These are persistent materials with unique environmental properties such as intake of contaminated food, water and air, irrespective of proximity to industries, which are suspected to have endocrine disrupting activities. Perflurooctanoic acid (PFOA) and diethylstilbestrol (EDCs)...
متن کاملEvaluation of photocatalytic process using GO/ZnO nanocomposites under LED irradiation for removal of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) from aqueous solutions
Background and Aim: Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs), and potential EDCs are mostly man-made, found in various materials such as pesticides, metals, additives or contaminants in food, and personal care products. Phthalates are a group of these compounds that are carcinogenic to animals and can cause fetal death and congenital anomalies. The aim of this study was to investigate the photocat...
